What separates you from others in the financial and wealth management profession?
What separates us is our focus, our status and our team. Our focus is on Montgomery County’s “Middle Class Millionaires.” Our financial planning analysis, strategies and client service experience are designed with these clients in mind. As fee-only, independent financial advisors, we sit on the same side of the table as the client and utilize our skills and talents to serve clients with these common goals and concerns. As independent advisors, we are fiduciaries who are held to the highest standard of any professional advisor in the industry. Finally, what separates us from others in the industry is our team. Kendall Capital’s team includes vice president Paola Bruening, financial planner and relationship manager Carol L. Petrov, CFP® and client services manager Marjorie Loggie.

What should clients know about your qualifications?
While we feel highly qualified as individuals, what clients should know is that we have a trustworthy, reliable team who produce a unique client experience. I’ve been named one of the Washington metropolitan area's top wealth managers by the National Association of Board Certified Advisory Practices (NABCAP) and the Washington Business Journal. I also bring over 30 years of experience in the field and am among a select few wealth managers worldwide who have earned the triple designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Accredited Estate Planner (AEP). Carol has over 13 years in the industry and earned her CFP® designation. Paola and Marjorie helped build this firm from the very beginning over nine years ago by having a “client-first” attitude. They are both CFP® candidates and Paola earned a Master’s Degree in Finance from Johns Hopkins. Together, we have loyalty and consistency which our clients appreciate. They know we are here for them when needed and reach out to them proactively to ensure they’re staying on track to meet their financial goals.

What is your approach to investing in the market?
Our approach is to actively manage portfolios that meet our clients’ goals in a cost-effective manner. As fee-only, independent advisors, we have no allegiance or conflicts with other financial organizations for trading or product selection. First, we distinguish the client’s near term versus long term investment needs, including legacy planning. Then, we implement our custom investment models, which are actively managed, and incorporate several strategies that account for market volatility as well as correlation of various asset classes. We utilize a variety of taxable and tax-deferred accounts to meet our clients’ goals and strive to keep their plan simple and easy to understand. We also communicate with their accountants and estate attorneys when goals of tax efficiency and gifting overlap with portfolio management.
